─ CONFIGURING VPIC ─
VPIC, the image viewing software must be properly configured to run
correctly with your video card and CD-ILLUSION.
If there is a problem using the autodetect method during the installation
of the software, you can manually configure VPIC software.
Pg. 2 of 7
─ MANUALLY CONFIGURING VPIC ─
This method is used when the autodetect does not work properly. PLEASE
follow the detailed procedure below to ensure the proper manual
configuration of VPIC.
─ STEP 1 ─
From a DOS prompt change to the hard drive letter and directory to which
you installed the VPIC software during the installation of this disc.
Ie. If you choose the default settings during the installation you would
type the following: C: press ENTER
CD\VPIC press ENTER
Pg. 3 of 7
If you are not sure what video chip your board uses, you can run the file
WHICHVGA.EXE which will try to identify your video chip and the amount of
memory it has. This will display info about the video card to the screen
and also create a ASCII text file called WHICHVGA.TXT that you may read.
This maybe helpful to determine what video chip the video card utilizes.
If this doesn't work, you can try to compare the graphics mode numbers in
your video card manual to the mode numbers in the various configuration
files. As a last resort you can remove the video card and look at the
label on the large chip.
You may have received a VESA "Terminate and Stay Resident" (TSR) program
with your video card. If so you are encouraged to use it since it more or
less guarantees that VPIC will work with your video card.
Pg. 4 of 7
─ STEP 2 ─
Hopefully at this point you now know what video chip is on your video
card. Now type the following: CONFIG.EXE press ENTER
This will display a screen with all the VPIC configuration files of the
video chips that VPIC supports. Using the arrow keys, move the highlight
bar over the .CFG file that is appropriate for your video card and press
ENTER. This will configure VPIC.EXE for that particular video chip and
return you back to a DOS prompt.
Pg. 5 of 7
─ STEP 3 ─
Now type the following: VPIC.EXE /V press ENTER
The top line in VPIC should have the name of the board that you selected
when you ran the CONFIG.EXE program and the video modes that it supports
(make sure that the 1024x768 mode is listed).
─ STEP 4 ─
You will now need to make sure that VPIC is properly configured in
CD-ILLUSION SETUP under the GIF Viewer/Switches option.
type the following: C: press ENTER
CD\ILLUSION press ENTER
SETUPCD.EXE press ENTER
Pg. 6 of 7
Select the GIF Viewer/Switches option, and type the following on the
command string line. The hard drive letter VPIC resides in, directory
name VPIC resides in, VPIC.EXE and /R /A /RN (required switches)
Example: C:\VPIC\VPIC.EXE /R /A /RN /V
│ │ │ │ │ │ │
Hard drive letter VPIC resides on ─────┘ │ │ │ │ │ │
Directory name VPIC resides in ────────────┘ │ │ │ │ │
Configured VPIC for your video card ──────────────┘ │ │ │ │
Forces VPIC return to CD-ILLUSION ───────────────────────┘ │ │ │
Sets VPIC to auto-resolution mode ──────────────────────────┘ │ │
Forces VPIC not to write PICDATA file to current directory ────┘ │
Forces VPIC to disable VESA detection & use the .CFG information ──┘
Pg. 7 of 7
REQUIRED SWITCHES for VPIC to function with CD-ILLUSION are: /R /A /RN
note: the /V option is required by some video cards because they do not
return the proper VESA BIOS information back to the VPIC program.
If you have continued problems and can not get VPIC configured there are
several other HELP files specifically for VPIC that might further help
you. They are contained on the CD-ROM disc in the directory named VPIC.
They are: README.1ST - PROBLEMS - CONFIG.DOC
If ALL FAILS, you can call or write to VPIC, Inc. for technical support.
